Sunrise/Sunset

I shot this rather random photo sitting in rush hour evening traffic in LA. Finding peace amidst chaos is a talent I wish to nurture.

Reflecting on a decade past (and stealing a FB meme to do it)...in the first 10 years of the new millenium, I

> Turned 50 and had 3 birthday parties to celebrate -- my husband threw me a surprise party with 80 of my closest friends, my work buddies surprised me again in Florida a couple of weeks later and the party with my sister (in Vegas) basically lasted 3 days.

> Became a "grandmother" 3 times -- not genetically, but certainly from the heart. And twice more by proxy!

> Went on a family reunion cruise to Alaska -- the coolest reunion ever.

> Visited 25 countries around the world, on 5 continents.

> Lost my father and my sister, both to cancer.

> Discovered new friends through the internet, many of whom I have yet to meet in real life.

> Expanded my duties (and responsibilities) at work.

> Spent 10 more years with my best husband ever!

So what's in store for the next ten years? Who knows, but I hope it includes

> Turning 60 (I know that's not something most people -- mostly women -- look forward to, but since the odds of my making 50 were in question at one point, 60 looks damn fine to me.)

> Spending as much time as possible with family -- hopefully here in Hawaii one of these days.

> Logging time on two more continents: South America and Antarctica.

> Meeting more of my on-line friends face to face.

> Enjoying my job til it's time to pack it in.

> Packing it in.

> Having 10 more wonderful years with the love of my life.

VERY cool. Right away the photo, while beautiful, confused me. Hawaii has traffic like that???? Then i read on.

Cool idea about a list of the past decade. I was thinking that i hadn't heard much of this going on as we usually do but i might be that i've not had the TV on much at all and have missed it.

my list would be:

1. i dont' think i even visited 25 cities in the past decade, much less COUNTRIES! But i did travel to Santa Fe. Funny though, i believe it was my only plane trip the whole decade. that's bad.

2. Got married for the third and last time.

3. Discovered the wonders of blogging, iPods, digital cameras, the Internet. (it was Feb. 2000 that i first joined the Gumbo YaYa board.

4. Discovered that you can indeed make real friends through the internet, so now i get why people meet, fall in love and get married all starting with the Internet, which i used to scoff at before.

5. Took up bowling and found i loved it. Continued with flyfishing (which i discovered in 1997.)

6. Turned 50 and didn't mind at all.

Love your lists Pearl and Jojo!

My 2009 list.

I did turn 60 and I didn't like it one bit 'cause to me 60 is really old and I don't feel old!

We didn't do any major trips because we did a 3 week European vacation and one week NYC vacation in 2008. However we did do a lot of family visits to Florida. Our parents are in their mid 80's and it is absolutely imperative we visit more often because they can not travel to us anymore.

Celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. (Still in love after all these years)

great post! im so jeaulous of your last decade! 25 countries! at first i thought it was what you had done in one year so i was thinking you were insane but 10 years still. I have to USA and Canada and I really don't think Canada counts, even though it does.

Canada absolutely counts, Kylee!
