Frosty Fairyland

Fog off the water settles on the "stick trees" of winter and the resulting hoarfrost turns an Anchorage landscape into something out of The Chronicles of Narnia. Breathtaking.

JNU on final

Juneau is pretty quaint and photogenic anyway, but never more so than from the air. It's a "Give it up to God" kind of airport, for both take offs and landings, since Juneau sits in a bowl of mountains, but that makes for some awesome scenery.

This was taken on 1/16/2006, landing.

Spaceship on our ship

The artwork in the atrium of the ms Volendam is very Close Encounters modern.

Here, there be dragons!

Long Son Pagoda in Vietnam had a bit of everything...including dragons.

My happy place

This scene is so peaceful...the beach near Kaaawa. We were taking mom to the Crouching Lion for dinner, and it had been raining all week. The sun was setting over my shoulder and just leaving this gentle path on the water.

Weather or UFO?

Looking out the window of my hotel room in Anchorage, I saw this amazing weather cell forming over Elmendorf AFB...looked like something off the SciFi channel.

Greased Lightning

Went to a craft fair and found a vintage auto show in the parking lot. Love the colors on this one.

Jurassic...beach?

Doesn't this look like a prehistoric creature wandering the beach? It's just the remnants of the roots of a long dead ironwood tree.

Lost Horizon

Dining Above Haiku Gardens

The sun was setting and we were in the restaurant overlooking the Gardens, so the glare is a bit too much, but the air was clear, showing the cut of the Koolau Mountains off nicely.

It is awfully reminiscent of that movie...paradise amid the mountains.

A study in contrasts

The stark contrast between Alaska and Hawaii reminds me of how fortunate I am to experience the extremes of nature's beauty.

Leaving Anchorage, in July, we flew over these glaciers in the Chugach (Kuskowim? my Alaska topography's not so good) mountain range...

Unusual Sunrise

Unusual in the sense that I am loathe to get up early enough to see a sunrise, much less have myself sufficiently organized to photograph one.

But I'd just flown into S. FL for a business meeting the night before, and was up early. We almost never get to stay on the ocean when I'm down there, so I could not pass up this photo op.

Four days at Bellows

A few days at the beach can change your whole perspective on life.

I kinda like this perspective, don't you?

Getting artsy at the mini-golf

Funny how the flash illuminating the hole makes the ball appear to float. And bless my husband for putting up with my obsession.

Now I must freshen my pedicure.

POV

Just goofing around, waiting for an appointment. This is the danger of carrying a camera everywhere you go...images of nothing in particular!

Love that macro setting

My new camera (Sony T-3) has a macro capability I've never had access to before. This shot was too tempting to pass up, in spite of my allergy to bee stings.

Since all my photography equipment was ripped off during a daylight home burglary, I carry this baby with me everywhere. Smaller than a pack of cigarettes, it fits nicely in a secured pocket in my purse.

Ho Hum, another day in Paradise

Took this shot at Bellows beach last Sunday. A perfect day...trades blowing, sun shining. Doesn't get much better than this!

What an interesting idea...

Not a writer or a journal-er by nature, but the idea of posting photos here to share was given to me by a cyber-buddy today.

We'll give this a shot...
